Must Watch: Emma Watson delivers the most power speech to United Nations about feminism

If men don’t have to be aggressive, women won’t be compelled to be submissive. If men don’t need to control, women won’t have to be controlled. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals. We should stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by who we are.

*drops mic* *kicks door down* *does perfect emma watson things*

I’m sure Emma is genuine about her morals and whatnot, but as soon as I heard the idiotic phrase ‘inadvertent feminist' she immediately lost my attention. I can't take somebody who doesn't even understand feminism's history and current influence, seriously. I can't take somebody who immediately labels my egalitarian view as 'inadvertently feminist’ seriously. I cannot take a woman who does not understand the flaws of feminism seriously.

This speech is pretty, but that’s all it is.

It doesn’t talk about any female issues in depth. It doesn’t talk about any male issues in depth. It’s a statement against people who do not wish to adopt the feminist view. It’s a patronizing heap of garbage, and I won’t be indulging in any of it.

Seriously, dude?

This wasn’t some massive, in depth thesis, it was a call to action. It was a person trying to rally support for a cause and a movement. It wasn’t the time or the place to break down every minute struggle of the sexes in great detail.

And all Emma is trying to say here is that the brand of feminism she’s talking about is under the umbrella of egalitarianism. The fact that she talks about how both sexes deal with stereotypes is a pretty clear indication of that. She starts off her speech essentially saying the term feminism has been co-opted by man hate and that’s not what’s she’s here to talk about, and ends the speech by essentially saying the term you use is irrelevant, its the idea that matters, and the idea she’s talking about is equality.

This honestly just comes off as you being butthurt over the bullshit that passes for feminism here on Tumblr, and projecting it onto this speech as soon as you heard the word.

This is my husband, Hadrien.  He’s the most amazing man I’ve ever known. He’s strong, and patient.  He’s kind and could make anyone laugh and he is trans.  We’ve been through so much together, but our next journey is going to be adoption.  We’re reaching out to our tumblr family in hopes of help.  He’s trans and I have PCOS so it’s not possible for us to start a family by ourselves.  We were wondering if you might share our story and help us build our dream. <3 H&K
